Matthew 25:14-21
Two incidents are occurring in these scriptures about three kinds of people who were called by God. One type person the Lord invested a whole lot into because He knew that His investment would have a high return. Another type of person the Father invested not so much because He knew that there would not be an outstanding yield but a good yield. And then there was the type of person God invested only a small amount because He knew that that there would be no multiplication. When most of us read this passage of scripture our focus is upon determining who improved best upon the gift. But really we need to focus upon the type of persons represented here. There was no limit to how much either person could improve upon their gift. The hidden secret of success or failure lies in the persons themselves. The word ability as used here in scripture does not connotate the individual’s own personal aptitude. Rather, that word directly applies to their capacity to know and accept the purpose God has for their lives. God knows that we can do nothing of ourselves only, but it is He working through us both to will and to do of His good pleasure.(Philippians 2:13)
It takes hard work and effort to stir up and use the gifts of God. If you sit and do nothing then God’s gifted is wasted in you—the gift is not wasted, it’s just wasted in you. This is what makes the Lord angry with us, when we waste His gift. We have this treasure hidden in earthen vessels so that the excellency of the Lord is brought out of us and shone through us. When we do not allow the excellency of the Lord to come through us we are then negating the presence and promise of the Lord. The servant who received the two talents and the one who received the five, doubled what the Lord had given them to be stewards over. In other words, we are to strive for that double anointing. The double anointing works to do twice as much with the Father has invested in you–double authority, double power, double dominion, and cause the devil double trouble!! The servant with the one talent could have been blessed but he did not use what God gave Him. What was his excuse? –that the Lord required too much of him. He said that he knew the Lord was a hard man and one who expected him to walk in authority. The servant did not want to be sent into places he’d never gone, or do things he had never done, or be someone he had never been. He thought it was too hard and fell prey to the number one tool of the enemy-FEAR! He then felt that he could not do the hard things.
The hard things are to deny yourself, step out of comfortability, and totally depend upon God.
It is terrible to be fearful. Fear is a double edged blade. It will either immobilize you or mobilize you. Fear will keep your mind in torment and indecisiveness. Fear will make you run back to the known instead of running toward destiny. This is why we know that fear is not of God (2 Timothy 1:17). It is an enemy to purpose. The reverential fear of the Lord should have propelled this servant into destiny. But instead he allowed counterfeit fear to stop him from walking in the will of the Lord.
If we are to be blessed and rewarded by the Lord in these final hours I honestly believe we are going to have to do what we think we cannot. In actuality we cannot do it! But it is Christ within who empowers and enables us to do the impossible (Philippians 4:13). Only the Spirit of the Lord can fully persuade us that we are able to do and able to be who the Father has predestined for us to be.
Go back into this passage of scripture. The multiplication of the gift should not be the prominent goal of our purpose walk. The two servants who multiplied their gift were not rewarded only with the multiplication of their gift but more importantly they reaped the reward of spiritual increase. The Father awarded their faithfulness and obedience to using the gifts He’d placed in them by making them ruler over many things. But when the Father said to them enter thou into the joy of thy Lord, we see a whole other realm of increase. It is that increase for which I long. Can you imagine what it must mean to be invited by the Father into His joy?? How powerful, humbling, and sustaining is that? I cannot envision how it must feel for the Lord to be so pleased with my obedience and diligence to do what He has created me to do that He literally invites me into His joy!! Praise His Name!! Yes, to have the Lord use you is an awesome feeling but to live in His presence, in His peace, in His substance, in His name…there can be no comparison!!
Psalm 16:11 says that in His presence is fullness of joy. If the Lord’s presence holds fullness of joy, then what does the fullness of His joy hold?! My God, I feel His anointing right now!!
I am learning with each test and trial that the Lord moves through what we move in. I honestly believe that one reason why we do not realize the spiritual blessings of God is because we keep confusing His spiritual blessings with His tangible rewards. Dear hearts, the Lord is more concerned with your faith in Him than He with your acts toward Him. What we do for Christ is only as good as why we do it. Seek first the spiritual blessings of the Lord and let His tangible rewards be the product of your obedience.
When it is your turn to answer the call of multiplication of the gifts of the Lord’s investment, step out in faith instead of sitting in fear. Don’t bury what you should carry for the Savior!
Be Blessed
